Important Information – Please Read Carefully
This disclaimer applies to all vehicle history reports and services provided by CarHPI.com. By using our Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Disclaimer.
—
1. Information Accuracy and Completeness
1.1 Third-Party Data Sources
All vehicle information provided by CarHPI.com is sourced from third-party databases and official records including:
- DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)
- MOT History Database
- Police National Computer (PNC)
- Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register (MIAFTR)
- Finance and leasing company records
- Insurance industry databases
IMPORTANT: We provide this information “as is” without any warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or currency.
1.2 Data Limitations
Our reports may NOT include:
- ❌ Unreported accidents or damage
- ❌ Private repairs not recorded officially
- ❌ Service and maintenance history
- ❌ Modifications or aftermarket parts
- ❌ Insurance claims that didn’t result in write-offs
- ❌ Mileage changes between MOT tests
- ❌ Incidents that occurred outside the UK
- ❌ Recent changes not yet updated in source databases
- ❌ Grey imports or parallel imports from abroad
- ❌ Cosmetic damage or minor incidents
1.3 Data Updates
Vehicle data is updated periodically by source providers. There may be a delay between:
- An incident occurring and being recorded
- A finance agreement being settled and being removed from records
- Keeper changes and database updates
- Repairs being completed and records being updated
We cannot guarantee that information is up-to-date at the time of your check.

2. Not a Substitute for Professional Inspection
2.1 Physical Inspection Required
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: A CarHPI vehicle history report is NOT a replacement for:
- Professional mechanical inspection by a qualified mechanic
- Test drive to assess vehicle condition
- Independent vehicle assessment before purchase
- HPI verification through official DVLA channels (if in doubt)
- Physical examination of damage, wear and tear, or repairs
2.2 Hidden Issues
Even a “clear” report does not guarantee:
- The vehicle is in good mechanical condition
- All previous damage has been properly repaired
- The vehicle is safe to drive
- There are no underlying mechanical faults
- The odometer reading is accurate
- The vehicle matches its description
ALWAYS have a qualified mechanic inspect any vehicle before purchase.
—

4.3 Maximum Liability
In any event, our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the specific vehicle check in question (maximum £5.00 for GOLD tier).
—
5. Stolen Vehicle Check Limitation
5.1 Police National Computer Data
Our stolen vehicle check is based on Police National Computer (PNC) data provided through third-party data suppliers.
This check does NOT guarantee:
- The vehicle has never been stolen (only that it’s not currently recorded as stolen)
- Recent theft reports have been processed
- All stolen vehicles are recorded on the database
- Cross-border theft records (international)
- The vehicle won’t be reported stolen after your check
5.2 Due Diligence
If purchasing a vehicle:
- Request proof of ownership from the seller
- Verify V5C registration document authenticity
- Check the VIN matches across all documents
- Be wary of suspiciously low prices
- Meet at the seller’s home address (not car parks)
- Report concerns to police (Action Fraud: 0300 123 2040)
—
6. Finance Check Limitation
6.1 Outstanding Finance Data
Our finance check searches UK finance and leasing company records.
This check does NOT guarantee:
- All finance agreements are recorded
- Recent agreements have been registered
- Private loans or informal arrangements are shown
- Finance from overseas lenders is included
- The finance will be settled before your purchase
6.2 Legal Responsibility
IMPORTANT: If you purchase a vehicle with outstanding finance:
- The finance company legally owns the vehicle
- The vehicle can be repossessed even after you’ve paid the seller
- You may lose both the vehicle and your money
- Always verify the seller has proof of ownership and finance settlement
If in doubt, contact the finance company directly before purchase.
—
7. MOT History and Mileage
7.1 MOT Data Limitations
MOT history is sourced from official DVLA MOT databases but:
- Only shows MOT test results (not service history)
- May not include very recent MOT tests (24-48 hour delay)
- Historical data may have gaps or errors
- Failed tests between passes may not always appear
- Advisories are recorded by individual testers (quality varies)
7.2 Mileage Verification
Mileage checks are based on MOT test records only:
- Cannot detect clocking between MOT tests
- Cannot verify first registration mileage
- Cannot detect private odometer tampering
- Cannot guarantee current mileage is accurate
Consistent MOT mileage does NOT guarantee the odometer hasn’t been altered.
—
8. Insurance Write-Off Categories
8.1 Write-Off Data
We check MIAFTR (Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register) for write-off records.
This check does NOT guarantee:
- All incidents are recorded (only insurance write-offs)
- Private repairs or minor accidents are shown
- The extent of damage or repair quality
- The vehicle is safe after repairs
- Recent write-offs have been registered (may be delays)
8.2 Category Explanations
Write-off categories have different meanings:
- Category A: Scrap only, cannot be repaired
- Category B: Body shell must be crushed, parts can be salvaged
- Category S (formerly C): Structural damage, repairable
- Category N (formerly D): Non-structural damage, repairable
A repaired Category S or N vehicle may be roadworthy but:
- May have reduced value (20-40% less than market value)
- May have higher insurance premiums
- Repairs should be verified by qualified mechanic
- Future buyers will see the write-off history
—
9. Damage Photos
9.1 Photo Availability
Damage photos are provided where available from insurance industry sources.
IMPORTANT:
- Photos may not be available for all damaged vehicles
- Photos may not show all damage sustained
- Photos are from the time of initial assessment (may be years old)
- Photos do not show current condition after repairs
- Photo quality varies depending on source
9.2 Photo Interpretation
Damage photos are for reference only:
- Do not assess repair quality
- Do not show vehicle’s current condition
- May not include all angles or damage areas
- Cannot replace physical inspection
—
10. Keeper History
10.1 Previous Keeper Information
GOLD tier checks include the number of previous keepers.
This information:
- Shows quantity only (not identities, due to GDPR)
- May not include very recent keeper changes
- Does not indicate how each keeper used the vehicle
- Does not show reasons for sale
More keepers does NOT necessarily indicate problems – could be lease vehicles, company cars, or natural turnover.
—
